Kristie Reeter’s Next Chapter Bringing Wellness Home on News 12

BY CHRISTINE MONTANTI

For more than a decade, Emmy Award–winning television personality v Reeter has been a familiar, trusted presence on News 12 Bronx, covering breaking news while developing a distinct voice in lifestyle journalism. Last fall, Reeter shifted gears, stepping into a new role as the host of News 12’s beWell, a show designed to make everyday living healthier, easier, and more informed. She brings a practical, relatable approach to topics that matter wellness, parenting, budgeting, cooking, beauty, and smart spending giving viewers tools they can use immediately to improve their daily routines and overall well-being. In addition, Reeter hosts Haunted Tri-State, where she explores some of the region’s most haunted locations, and also leads News 12’s Holiday Toy specials, a role she especially enjoys as a working mother.

What sets beWell apart is its hands-on approach rather than simply presenting ideas, Reeter often tries them herself, showing viewers what actually works in real life. Segments range from health tips and family-friendly recipes to money-saving strategies and product spotlights, all delivered in a relatable, conversational style. At its core, beWell reflects a shift in local television toward service-driven content.

We sat down with Kristie Reeter to learn more about the journey that shaped her voice and purpose as a journalist. In our conversation, she opened up about her early influences, the experiences that led her to pursue a career in media, and the passion that continues to drive her work today. She also shared insight into NEWS12’s show, BeWell, discussing its mission, the stories it aims to highlight, and how it reflects her commitment to informing and uplifting her audience.

Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in such a highly competitive filed as broadcast journalism?

Kristie Reeter: I always loved watching the start of the big network morning shows when I was a little girl. The summer meant I got even more time to watch the whole newscast. I loved how a newscast could help you be informed on so many levels and help get you out the door. It is funny because I don’t consider myself competitive, but this field certainly can be. I just love getting to learn something new almost every single day. As you tell stories, you have to become an expert on what you are reporting on as best you can. You get to really meet people, get to know them, and then tell their stories. It is such a privilege to be in this line of work. News 12 has really given me the opportunity to work on a variety of stories that fuel my inner curiosity. Outside of beWell, I’m the host of Haunted Tri-State, a spooky look into some of the most haunted locations in the region. I also lead News 12’s Holiday Toy specials which I especially love as a working mother.

Q. Can you describe the content of beWell and what the show offers to its viewers?

Kristie Reeter: The whole concept of the show is to “live life better.” And that is what we do with the stories we tell. We show viewers new dishes to help them save time and eat better. We also walk you through a quick step-by-step workout. And of course, you get to hear insightful lifestyle advice from celebrities, health and wellness experts, and local leaders.

We recently launched a new segment for beWell, 90 Days in 3 Ways, which features three News 12 employees taking a different path to wellness – one working with a nutritionist, one training with a fitness expert, and one using a health app – to see what really makes a difference. It’s an interesting and exciting experiment, and I cherish the opportunity to work with my fellow News 12 colleagues, especially the ones behind the camera.

beWell is an important part of News 12’s slate of programming and provides local audiences with engaging wellness content. There is really something for everyone!

Q. Do you feel your program is geared toward a specific audience, or does it appeal to a broad and diverse viewership?

Kristie Reeter: I think anyone can watch beWell and take something away from it. One day I will be filming with the Rockettes, learning makeup tips from them, and then another story will take me to a sewing shop where I am learning the basics of how to sew a button and mend a hem – the viewers learning with me the whole time! And then the next day I am in studio with an author who is giving dating advice after she wrote a book on her year of really bad dates. Everyone can learn something when they tune in.

Q. What do you find most rewarding about hosting beWell?

Kristie Reeter: Getting to meet so many people and having those people trust me to tell their stories. And I also love how the skills and trends I want to learn about on my own can come to life on beWell. With the viewers in mind, I go find the experts and then do a story on it! I am always learning with the beWell audience.

Q. Is there a particular aspect of the show’s content that you find especially rewarding to report on?

Kristie Reeter: Talking to guests who share something personal to help other people going through the same thing is truly rewarding. Because I know someone watching feels like they are not alone. We have had guests come on and talk about life with OCD, moving forward after a traumatic brain injury, and symptoms they experienced before a cancer diagnosis. Those are things that can have such an impact on our audience, literally lifesaving information.

Q. Can you share a particularly memorable and impactful moment from your time on beWell?

Kristie Reeter: Oh wow, there are so many already. We had a guest who stutters and wanted to educate others on the topic. After the segment aired, a mother reached out to me on social media wanting to connect the guest with her son who stutters. She was able to make the connection and wanted him to start speaking at schools. It is stories like this that just mean the world. This show is to help people and is all about our viewers. I am just so lucky to be a part of.

Q. How do you balance your professional career with your responsibilities as a wife and mother, and do you find it challenging?

Kristie Reeter: It can be challenging, but I, like many parents, find a way to make it work. On days I am up before my family for a shoot I lay out all my girls’ clothes and Facetime when I can for the hair styling part of the morning. Because even if I am not physically there all the time, I know it is all about teamwork when it comes to family.

And my work family helps me in my personal life too! When my daughters were babies, my coworkers knew I needed a lot of «pumping breaks» while nursing. Once I even brought my daughter to a work training event when she was just a few months old. Our SVP and GM of News 12, Audrey Gruber, watched her for me! She is a working mom as well and knew I needed help that day.

It is not always perfect, but I feel involving my family in my career helps. That way they understand some of the demands that might keep me away and also get to enjoy the cool work I get to do!
